SATIN
(To His Advisor)

From a practical life keep him away,
Get all his pawns beaten in this nice way.

He’s better a slave upto the dooms day,
Leave the mortal world for others hey-day.

The verse and mysticism suits for his ‘deen’.
Which hides from his eyes life’s vital scene.

I fear from this Ummah lest they awake,
Being his faith’s base, world account he would take.

In prays at dawn keep him rapt and grave.
Make him zealot fan of tombs and graves.

THE MENACE OF "PEER" (Human) and GRAVE WORSHIPPING IN MUSLIMS

In the East, in countries such as India and Pakistan, the Muslim association and companionship with Hindus (polytheists), have resulted in a high degree of social and religious integration. The impact of such integration on Muslims has been adverse and highly detrimental since Muslims absorbed the cultural and religious influences of the Hindus. In the wake of Muslim association with the Polytheists-Mushrikeen followed the wholesale abdication by Muslims of Islamic values and of the pure and simple Ibaadat practices of Islam. The Sunnah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) was sacrificed.

Every case of social integration, in which Muslims fused their Islamic culture - the Sunnah - with the influences of the Mushrikeen, was at the peril of Imaan since it resulted in the Muslim abandoning the true and simple Sunnah acts and practices of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) and of the Sahaabah. The process of spiritual and Deeni degeneration ensuing in the wake of such social assimilation did not terminate at the point of only abandonment of the Sunnah. Such abandonment resulted in a spiritual and cultural (pertaining to the Sunnah) vacuum which was filled by a mass of accretions - additions and introductions - borrowed from the cultures and religions of the Mushrikeen. Kufr and shrik trappings became interwoven in the pure and priceless Fabric of Islam.

The accretions, in many instances, battered the pure teachings of Islam beyond recognition. As the accretions dug deeper into the bodywork of Islam, the ignorant and the unwary led along by unscrupulous swindlers parading as religious divines, considered the new introductions into the Deen as integral parts of Islam. The pure and holy Sunnah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) came to be regarded as alien by the very people who professed to be Muslims and who vociferously asserted their love for Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Under the colourful slogan of "Hubbe Rasool" (Love of Rasulullah), they perpetrated the worst of abominations--shirk and kufr. They destroyed the beloved, pure, simple and holy Sunnah practices and acts of Ibaadat which that same Rasool (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) whom they professed to love, planted and nurtured with his holy sweat and blood.

In the terminology of the Shariah, accretions which displace or tamper with the Sunnah of Nabi-e-Kareem (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) are described as "bid'ah" or innovations. In regard to bid'ah, Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Every act of bid'ah is deviation (dhalaal), and every act of deviation will be in the Fire."

Bid'ah or innovation in the Eyes of the Shariah, is highly reprehensible. Its villainy is such that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: "Whoever honours a bid'ati (perpetrator of bid'ah) helps in the destruction of the foundations of Islam."

Since bid'ah or innovation is the displacement of the Sunnah, it will be simple to understand the harsh attitude which Islam adopts towards the perpetrators of bid'ah. If bid'ah was allowed to flourish, the whole of Islam would long ago have been distorted beyond recognition. In fact, there would have remained nothing of Islam. But, Allah Ta'ala willed otherwise. From time to time, Allah Ta'ala raised a small band of devoted and uprighteous muslims who diligently and resolutely purified Islam of the noxious accretions which the Ahl-e-Bid'ah attached to the Deen.

Muslims who have taken to bid'ah, thus renouncing the Sunnah, and adopting acts and practices which have neither origin nor sanction in Islam, come within the purview of the following Qur'aanic aayat: "Many among them accept Imaan while (in fact) they are Mushriks."

In other words, they profess to be Muslims, but they perpetrate acts of shirk such as worshipping the graves by performing ruku, sajdah and tawaaf to the graves of the Humans. The fitnah of bid'ah in our time revolves around the cult of grave-worship (qabar puja). A fundamental doctrine of the Bid'ah cult in our day, is belief and practice in grave-worship. Among the acts of shirk offered to the graves by members of the grave-worshipping cult are:

* Making ruku of the graves.
* Making sajdah to the graves.
* Making tawaaf of the graves.
* Kissing the graves.
* Reversing away from the graves in a show of excessive veneration for the graves.
* Decorating the graves with expensive bedding.
* Placing foodstuff at the graves.
* Arranging festivals and fairs at the graves. Such fairs are called "urs" by the grave-worshippers.

Bid'ah or innovation stunts the intelligence of those who indulge in it. It blinds the spiritual eyes of people. It leads unwary and ignorant people far from the straight path and sends them plunging head-long into an abyss of roohaani (spiritual) darkness. The fall into spiritual ruin is described in the following aayat of the Qur'aan Majeed:

"One who commits shirk with Allah, is as if he has fallen from the sky; then some bird (of prey) snatched him or a wind blew him and deposited him in afar away deep pit (of darkness)."

PEER-WORSHIP

Another vile facet of the innovations or bid'ah-"grave worship cult" is the pernicious practice of peer-worship. A "peer" is supposed to be a spiritual mentor or a guide who has to guide disciples (mureeds) along the spiritual path leading to proximity with Allah Ta'ala. But, the "peers" heading the grave-worshipping sect are no true spiritual guides. They are wolves in sheep-clothing. About such spiritual frauds who pillage and plunder the Imaan of unwary and innocent people, Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: "There will dawn an age when (some) men will don long woollen (religious) garments. Their tongues will be sweeter than sugar, but their hearts will be the hearts of wolves."

In one narration, Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) described such religious frauds as "shayaateen (devils) in human bodies." These "peers" have cast numerous unwary persons into the dregs of shirk and kufr by prevailing on them to execute acts of worship, not only to the graves, but, also to themselves (i.e. to the "peers"). Thus, we find in this vile cult of grave-worship, its members performing ruku to their "peers" and kissing the feet of these impostors. And to crown their villainy, they have an elaborate system of fees which their gullible and ignorant members have to pay for the supposed spiritual guidance offered by the deviates dwelling in bid'ah.

In the cult of qabar-puja and peer-puja (grave-worship and peer-worship) greater importance and significance are attributed to acts of graveworship than to even the Fardh Salaat and acts of the Sunnah of Nabi-eKareem (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Prostrating to the graves of the "peers" is considered a greater act of ibaadat than prostrating in the Musjid in the presence of Allah Ta'ala. The fun-fair "urs" festival is considered superior to the Hajj of Islam; hence the chiefs of the grave-worshipping sect decreed the cancellation of Hajj because of the regime of Ibn Saud. Hajj was performed during the time of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) even at the time when Makkah Muazzamah was under Kuffaar domination--when the Ka'bah was under the control of the Kuffaar. But, the "muftis" of the grave-worshippers have decreed the permissibility and the validity of the cancellation of Hajj in present times merely because of the Saudi regime. The Bareilli molvis, some time ago, published a booklet, "Tanweerul Hujjah", which explained their fatwa of the cancellation of Hajj in our times. Thus, according to the grave-worshippers, qabar-puja is an adequate or even a superior substitute for the Fardh Salaat! It is for this reason that we find them so lax in Salaat. Even their "peers" are careless regarding the observance of Salaat. Their indifference to the Masnoon (Sunnat) formulae of Durood Shareef is amply illustrated by the fact that they prefer to recite their own concocted "praises" and songs about Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) instead of adhering to the forms of Durood taught to the Ummah by Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam).

It will be discerned among the grave-worshippers that, in general, they suffer from the malady of total indifference to the ordained acts of Islamic Ibaadaat. They accord greater emphasis to customs, shirki rituals and baseless innovated practices which were introduced into the Ummah centuries after Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). They are able to shed without compunction the most vital acts of Islamic worship in order to uphold their dark, evil and pernicious acts of grave and peer-worship. While they regard their acts of qabar-puja to be adequate substitutes for the Fardh and Masnoon acts and practices of Islam, they never consider the acts of Islamic worship sufficient and adequate substitutes for graveworship which is a must in their cult. In there belief, there is not a single act of Islamic Ibaadat which is on par with qabr-puja.

SHIRK AT THE GRAVESIDES

When they congregate at the grave of a "peer", they stand there like statues expressing great humility and veneration. In fact, the humility and reverence which they display at the graves of the "peers" are never shown in the Musjid when they have to perform Salaat for Allah Ta'ala.

At the graves of the "peers" they indulge in a variety of acts of shirk and kufr. They make sajdah to the graves and they make tawaaf thereof. But, according to Islam, Sajdah is to be rendered exclusively to Allah Ta'ala and Tawaaf exclusively to the Holy Ka'bah. They burn incense at the graves and they adorn the graves with lamps and lights in open violation of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam's) prohibition to do so.

Grave-worship is not a new cult. It came into being after the age of Nooh A.S. Even the Christians and the Jews practised grave-worship, hence Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Allah cursed the Yahood and the Nasaara because they converted the graves of their Ambiya into places of worship."

This hadith as well as other narrations inform us that Allah's curse settles on the cult of grave-worship. Muslims should, therefore, never be misled by the false slogans raised by the grave-worshippers. Participation, in the activities of the qabar-puja cult occasions the La'nat of Allah Ta'ala according to the explicit statement of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam).

The members of the grave-worship sect loudly proclaim their "love" for Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam), but they ignore his condemnation of grave-worship. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) commanded: "Do not make an idol of my grave so that it be worshipped."

On another occasion, Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: `O Allah! Do not let my grave become an idol which will be worshipped."

When even worshipping the grave of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) is prohibited, then by what stretch of imagination can the worshipping of the graves of the "peers" be permissible?

Many people not acquainted with the cult of the grave-worshippers are misled by slogans of "Hubbe Rasool" (Love of the Rasool) trumpeted by the leaders of this devious sect. Innocent and unknowledgeable people are ensnared by the sweet talk of Deen, expressed in flowery but insincere language by the peers of this cult of abomination. They vociferously proclaim their love for Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) but their life is devoid of the Sunnah of Nabi-e-Kareem (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Expression of the Sunnah in practical terms is the natural consequence of Hubbe Rasool (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). But, far, far from introducing the Sunnah in their lives, they eliminate the Sunnah and replace it with the rituals of shirk. Thus, their religion consists of graveworship, qawwaali, dancing, fun-fairs, eating, drinking in the name of dead saints and a host of other hotch-potch shirki rituals and beliefs, all borrowed from other religions of shirk and modified for the consumption of unwary and ignorant Muslims.

Grave-worship negates Imaan. It destroys Imaan since it is the very antithesis of Imaan. Islam does not subscribe to the marxist theory of the synthesis of opposites which the atheist asserted. Such ludicrous theories are spawned by minds maddened by atheism. Thus, Imaan cannot fuse with its opposite, viz., grave-worship, to produce a superior hybrid concept which according to the Ahle Bid'ah is the cult of grave-worship - a cult superior in their minds, to all forms of Islamic Ibaadat. Islam is uncompromising in its doctrine of Tauheed. Its monotheism is unique since it is not tainted by the slightest vestige of shirk. A Muslim, the bearer of Tauheed, cannot therefore participate in grave-worship and remain a Muslim. Qabar-puja eliminates Imaan.

THE STRATEGY OF THE QABAR-PUJARIS

The first strategy adopted by the grave-worshippers in places where qabar-puja does not exist, is to set up, by hook or by crook, a dargah or a mausoleum--a tomb around which they execute their acts of qabar-puja and which acts as their headquarters. The central institution of Muslims is the Musjid, but the pivot of all activity of the grave-worshippers is the grave of some person. Sometimes the grave happens to be that of a well known "peers" while in many cases the mausoleums are raised on the graves of non-entities and in some cases, even animals. Gullible people are then made to believe that some great buzrug (saint/peer) lies buried in the grave.

Muslims should understand that we stand in no need of any cult or any act of worship which has no origin and no sanction in Islam. Graveworshippers claim that they are beautifying Islam by their innovated acts. But, the Ummah does not need such fallacious adornments. The Ummah needs the Islam of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). The Najaat of Muslims lies in the Islam handed down to the Ummah by the illustrious Sahaabah and not in the brand of "Islam" offered by graveworshippers.

It is most surprising to observe unwary Muslims allowing themselves to be entrapped in the webs spun by the grave-worshippers, despite the fact that they express belief in only Allah Ta'ala. Every Muslim is fully cognizant of the Islamic belief of Tauheed. Every Muslim understands, or should understand, that in his declaration of the Kalimah LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAAH, he negates all objects which human shayaateen and jinn shayaateen offer as deities to be worshipped. The Muslim staunchly professes his belief in ONE Allah and he jealously guards that Imaan. He prides himself with the exceptionally pure and unique concept of Islamic monotheism. Daily, the Muslim declares no less than 48 times in his Salaat:

IYYAKA NA'BUDU WA IYYAAKA NASTA EEN (O Allah!) Only You do we worship and only from You do we seek aid.

But, the innovators or "Bid'ati" Muslim then goes and neutralizes his Imaan by bowing and prostrating, kissing and circumambulating the graves of the humans who were all creatures of Allah Ta'ala, who could not say or do anything without the permission of Allah Ta'ala.

Instead of supplicating--making dua--to Allah Ta'ala, the members of the qabar-puja sect petition the graves for their worldly needs and requirements. They pray to the inmates of the graves to grant them children, sustenance, desires and hopes. In order to appease the dead peers, the grave-worshippers offer holy vows and fast in the names of the humans. Yet, Islam teaches that Allah Ta'ala Alone is Khaaliq, Raaziq and Maalik. Not an atom can stir without His express Command. Not a leaf stirs in the breeze, but with the express Command of Allah Ta'ala. He knows and He commands. He has no partner. That is the uncompromising belief of Islam and so we believe.

Those Muslims who are not acquainted with the cult of the grave-worshippers should beware. Participation in the functions and rituals of the qabar-puja sect is at the peril of one's Imaan. The rites of graveworship and peer-worship are impregnated with shirk which negates the belief in Tauheed. The strategy of the grave-worshippers is never to expound their shirki acts of grave-worship at their gatherings and functions. Their tactic is to dupe unwary and unacquainted Muslims. To achieve this pernicious aim, they project and display a conspicuous slogan and clamour of "Hubbe Rasool" while in reality they are devoid of the Love of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Their functions of meelaad and moulood are punctuated with calls and cries of "Hubbe Rasool." This veil of deception deludes people into believing that these functions are designed in honour and love of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). At these functions ostentatious acts of shirk, e.g. sajdah and ruku to the "peer saheb" are committed. Innocent and gullible people, therefore, are unable to detect the evil of this sect. The perpetration of the acts of shirk and kufr occurs at the graves of the well known muslims and in the private haunt of the "peer."

The illustrious Sahaabah, when they set out into the world to raise the glory of Allah's Name, erected Musaajid in all places where they went. The Ummah has been following this Sunnah throughout the corridor of Islamic history. But, the followers of the qabar-puja cult set up tombs to worship wherever they go. Their headquarters are tombs and their gods are dead peers.

SUFIS (MYSTICS) “THE ALIEN PLANT”

Now discover why Allama Iqbal calls Tasawwuf/Sufism (Mysticism) “An Alien Plant in the Soil of Islam.” The following paragraph summarizes the opinion of two of the greatest thinkers of the 19-20 century India, namely Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and Allama Shibli Na’mani. They state: “It is often claimed that the Sufis brought Islam to the Indo-Pak Subcontinent. A careful review of history gives us quite a different picture. Muslims ruled the Subcontinent for more than eight centuries, and today 80% of the population remains Hindu. The Muslims adopted and absorbed so much of Hindu mythology, customs, and traits that they became half-Hindus and half-Muslims. This happened because the philosophy of the “Unity of Being” was exactly the same among the Muslim Sufis and the Hindu Yogis. The only difference was that of nomenclature. The Hindu “Hama Oost” (All is He) was, and is, 100% interchangeable with “Wahdat-al-Wujood” (The Unity of Being) of the Sufi. Essentially, both mean that everything in the Universe is God.” Afkaar-e-Sir Syed Wa Shibli

Now prepare your mind for an awesome flight. See hundreds of mystics insulting human intelligence in the name of Islam. Watch them making mockery of God, His Messengers, His Guidance and the Laws of Nature. They go as far as their imagination can take them. Watch them play God, produce miracles, bash reason and kill common sense. Their true miracle, however, is that millions of Muslims still consider them as champions of Islam.

It is noteworthy that a time honored book, Safina-til-Baharij Vol 2 Pg 52 quotes a saying of the exalted Prophet, "Some people in my Ummah will be called Sufia, they will be worse than Kaafirs, and will be thrown in the Hellfire."

Here are some quotes from the Sufi books. Read---enjoy---have a good flight!

I am superior to Prophets and I am higher in rank than they are. (Sheikh Mohiuddin Ibn-Arabi, Hadeeqa Sultania Pg190)

I have denounced Islam. I believe this is incumbent on people. Allah is God sitting in the heavens, I am the God on earth. (Statement of Hussain bin Mansoor Hallaj, Khateeb Baghdadi Vol 8, Ibne Athir chapter 11:140)

Men of knowledge see the Shi’as as swines. (Mohiuddin Ibn-Arabi, Futoohat Makkia 2:8)

Sheikh Imam Abul Hassan Noori was in the company of his disciples. The call to prayers came. The Sheikh said, “It is death.” Then a dog barked. The Sheikh replied, "Labbaik ya Sayyedi!" - Yes, O My Master! (Ibn-e-Jozi Talbees-e-Iblis Pg 383)

My body has merged with the body of Rasulullah. Therefore, we are one. (Shah Waliullah, Anfasul Arifain)

I recite Surah Fatiha and walk across the river. (Mulfoozat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Ajmeri). The strange thing is not their silly claims. It is the people who believe in them.

In the assemblies of "URS" (communion of Sufi souls with God, literally, wedding with God), spirits of the dead Sufis come to dance around. (Mullah Abul Kalam Azad, the late Minister of Education in India. Iman-e-Khalis by Fazil ‘Uloom-e Deeniyah, Dr. Masooduddin Usmani Pg 63)

Allama Shibli Na’mani, Muhammad Husain Azad, Deputy Nazeer Ahmed and Sir Syed Ahmad Khan noted a weird exchange of religious dogmas in the Subcontinent. Centuries ago, the Brahmans (priest class) of India were alarmed as Hindu masses, impressed by the Message of true Monotheism and human equality, were finding Islam irresistible. To safeguard Hinduism, the Brahmans started the “Bhagti” movement in the 11th century, which preached that Raam and Raheem were one. Hindu Yogis befriended Muslim Sufia. They learned tricks from each other and called them “Karamat” and “Chamatkar” (Miracles). Their followers portrayed them as super-humans. Sheikh Sa’di Shirazi has correctly pointed out, “Saints fly not. Their disciples make them fly.”

The end result was a wholesale amalgamation of Islam and Hinduism, giving birth to a new religion that has been termed as the Ittihadi Deen (Unified Faith) by Dr. Usmani. In the process, Hindus who embraced Islam, and Muslims who were exposed to the currents of Vedant (Hindu Mysticism), all remained half-Hindus and half-Muslims. If some Hindus embraced Islam, many Muslims embraced Hinduism. Most Muslims of the subcontinent are in fact followers of the Unified Faith. It is no wonder that Hindus are very respectful of the “Muslim” Sufis.

Here is a glimpse of the Unified Faith: Hindus worship idols, Muslims worship graves. We have ‘Urs instead of Yatra, Tawaf of graves instead of Phairay, Agarbatti in place of Momebatti, Tabarruk versus Prashad, Qawwali versus Bhajan, Araq-e-Gulab versus Gangajal, Kharqa versus Zunnar, and so on. (Iman-e-Khalis by Fazil ‘Uloom-e Deeniyah, Dr. Masooduddin Usmani)

Hazrat Dawood Jawarbi had seen Allah. When asked about Allah, he said, “Ask me not about His genitals and His beard. Ask about anything else.” (Al-Milil-wan-Nahil, Imam Shehristani 1:96). Imam Shehristani should have reported ‘Hazrat’ Jawarbi to the authorities. And the authorities should have painted both as clowns and placed them on donkeys for a ride around the town for spreading such rubbish.

The priest in the church is our Allah. (Sheikh Ibn-Arabi, Qasasul Ulema Pg 53)

There is none else worthy of worship. Come and worship me. (Mullah Jalaluddin Rumi, Mathnawi 4:52)

Time for a hearty laugh: This morning Allah wrestled with me. He floored me because I am 2 years younger than He is. (Abul Hassan Kharqani, Fawaid Faridiya Pg 78)

Alas! The Muslim fails to understand that Allah can be found only in idol worship. (Sufi Mahmood Shabistri, Sharah Gulshan-e-Raz Pg 294)

Hanafis are people who are pacing toward Hellfire. The death anniversary of Imam Husain must be celebrated like the Festival of Eid. (“Piran-e-Pir Dastgeer” - The Saint of saints, Holder of hands - Abdul Qadir Jeelani, Ghania- til-Talibain Pg 190)

My foot is on the neck of every saint. So, I placed my foot on Hazrat Ali's neck. (Abdul Qadir Jeelani, Asrar-ul-Qadam Pg 191) Jeelani was exhumed

It is worth recalling that the governor of Baghdad, Ubaidullah Yunus, leveled the home of Jeelani (d. 1166), threw out his sons, exhumed his grave, burnt his remains, and plunged them in the river Tigris in 1170 CE. (Nujoom-uz-Zahrani 6:142)

I hate the God who does not appear as a dog or cat. (Ibn-Arabi, Khazeena Imaniyah Pg 168)

Whenever Khwaja Maudood Chishti desired to see the Ka’bah, angels airlifted it to the land of Chisht in India. (Malfoozat Khwaja Qutubuddin Bukhtiar Kaki, Fariduddin Ganj Shakar). This Khwaja Maudood Chishti is reported to be the ancestor of the famous Mullah-in-Chief of the 20th century, Maududi.

One thousand years have gone and so has the time of Muhammad. Now it is my time, the time of Ahmad. The second millennium is mine. (Sheikh Ahmad Sarhindi, the so-called “Mujaddid Alf-Sani”, Revivalist of the Second Millennium. (Mubda-wa-Ma’ad)

Books of the Tableeghi Nisab “Fazael A’mal” were presented to the exalted Prophet (in the twentieth century!) and he graciously certified them. (Behjatil Quloob Pg 12)

Khwaja Qutbuddin Maudood Chishti’s dead body flew in the air on its way to the graveyard. Khwaja Fareeduddin Ganj Shakar upon narrating this fell unconscious. (Rahatil-Quloob, Ganj Shakar). Ganj Shakar could not bear his own forgery, but he should have expired.

Adam cried for 300 years, so much so that birds made nests on his face. His tears brought forth so much grass that it covered his 60 meters long body. (Rahatul Muhibbeen c/o Ameer Khusro. Khwaja Nizamuddin Awlia)

A bird came and told us, "Tomorrow is Eid. Unlike humans we are free from lies.” Sheikh Faqirullah knew a crow that often learned Monotheism from him. (Reference same)

If Awlia (saints) wish, they can accept invitations from 10,000 towns and be there at the same time. (Ahmad Raza Khan Barelwi, Malfoozat part I Pg 127)

When Shah Waliullah was in his mother’s womb, she said a prayer. Two tiny hands appeared from her belly for prayer. She was frightened. Her husband said, "You have Qutubul Aqtab (Saint of Saints) in your womb. (Mullah Ashraf Ali Thanwi, Hikayaat-e-Awlia Pg 17). What a breakthrough!

The Prophet laid the foundation of Darul ‘Uloom, Deoband, India (in the 19th century!) He comes to check the accounts of the Madrasah. He has learnt Urdu from the Ulema of Deoband. (Mubasshirat-e-Darul ‘Uloom and Deoband Number of the Darul ‘Uloom). Was this tale made up to lend credence to the Deoband Mullah factory?

One night I started flying from heaven to heaven until I reached the Prophet. He accepted my allegiance. (Shah Waliullah, Anfasul Arifain Pg 38-39).

Allah revealed Himself to me as an extremely beautiful, irresistible woman, adorned with fine ornaments and see-through garments. She suddenly embraced me and merged into my body. (Shah Waliullah, Anfasul Arifain Pg 94-95).

Now the reverse order: God converted Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani into a woman (in the 19th century) and had sex with him. (“Islami Qurbani.” Tract Number 34, Qazi Yar Muhammad Qadiani)

The sun cannot rise before greeting me. The new year, the new month, the new day, cannot dawn without greeting me and informing me of every single event. (Malfoozat Ahmad Raza Barelwi about the exhumed ‘Ghaus Azam’ Abdul Qadir Jeelani)

A wolf was brought before Prophet Jacob. He said to the wolf, “Tell me about my son, Joseph.” The wolf said, “I am an animal, but I do no backbiting.” (Reference same)

Awliya, Peer-o-Murshid, Waseelah

by G.A. Parwez
translated by A.S.K Joommal

From the point of view of the Quran, the ultimate objective of a Mu’min’s life is the guarding of permanent values. When, however, there is a tie (or a clash) between the permanent values and his personal inclinations or interests, then he sacrifices his personal interests on the altar of permanent values… so much so that if he has to give his life while guarding some noble, permanent value, he does so without a moment’s hesitation. The Holy Quran names this as a test of true Eemaan.

The Jews had claimed they are the beloved "Awliya" of Allah. They were told:

"If you claim that you (alone) are the Awliya-Allah to the exclusion of all other people, then you should be longing for death – if what you say is true." (62/6)

It should be noted that by "longing for death" is not meant the annihilation of the "Nafs" (self) which is being regarded amongst us as a sign of the "Awliya Allah". The very concept of "killing the Nafs" is un-Quranic, and has been borrowed from Christian monasticism, Hindu yogis and Buddhist Nirvana. From the point of view of the Quran "longing for death" signifies fighting in the Way of Allah, doing battle for the Cause of Islam, and safeguarding the Deen by appearing against the enemy, ready to do or die.

"They fight in the Cause of Allah, and slay and are slain." (9:111)

Sitting in monasteries (Khaanqaahs) in order to conduct a "Jihaad-e-Akbar" against one’s self (nafs) is not "Qitaal Fee Sabeelillah". It is the BELIEVING people (people with TRUE Eemaan) who fight in the Way of Allah, who are called the "Hizbullaah" by the Quran (58:22) vis-à-vis the non-Muslim who are "Hizbush Shaitaan" (party of Satan) (58:19).

From the above explanation it is clear that the "Awliya-Allah" are the ENTIRE Jamaa’at of Mu’mineen. To be the "Walee" of Allah is their foremost characteristic. In this Jamaa’at there is no special group of Awliya-Allah. We, however erroneously conceive that the Awliya are a special group of people whose characteristics are different from the Jamaa’at-e-Mu’mineen.

It is widely believed that they have the power to cause harm or grant benefits. This is why people turn to them to pray for boons, and are afraid of their displeasure.

From the Quranic viewpoint, this type of belief is a result of fanciful imagination and superstition, and thus weak and feeble. The Quran says: "The parable of those who take (beings and forces) other than Allah for their Awliya, is that of the spider that makes for itself a house: for, behold, the frailest of all houses is the spider’s house. Could they but understand this!" (29:41).

As for causing harm of affording benefits to others is concerned, the Quran says that they (our so-called, supposed "Awliya") do not even process the power of aggrandizing any profit or incurring any loss for themselves, let alone doing so for others! Everything that happens, happens according to the Fixed Law of Allah. "Tell them (O Prophet) that do you accept besides Allah as Awliya those who do not have the power to benefit or harm themselves?" (13:16)

Let alone the "Awliya-Allah", in this connection, even the greatest holy personage whose status is said to be "BA’D AZ KHUDAA BUZURG TOO-EE QISSAH MUKHTA-SAR – after Allah, to cut a long story short , it is YOU who are the most exalted one", Allah says about him:

"Say (O Prophet): It is not within my power to avert harm or bring benefit to myself, except as Allah may please." (10:49)

It is also said (by the Peeri-Mureedi gentlemen) that they turn to and follow the "Awliya-Allah" because they will bring them (the mureeds) nearer to Allah since they themselves (the Awliya-Allah) are near to Allah. The Quran has categorically refuted this belief in the following words:

"Surely we have revealed to thee the Book (Quran) with truth, so SERVE ALLAH, BEING SINCERE TO HIM IN OBEDIENCE. Now surely sincere obedience is to Allah (alone). And those who choose Awliya besides Him (say): ‘We serve them (the Awliya) only because they may bring us nearer to Allah’. Surely Allah will judge between them in that in which they differ. Surely Allah guides not him who is a liar, ungrateful." (39:2-3)

We must remember that:

"he whom Allah guides, is on the right path; and he whom he leaves in error, you will not find for him a WALEE or MURSHID." (18:17)

"Walee" means one who may be obeyed, and "Murshid" is one who shows the correct path. Only Allah is the "Walee" and "Murshid" (and NO human being!) Allah is obeyed through His Book, the Holy Quran, which has been revealed for the guidance of mankind.

The Awliya are "Waseelah"

Regarding the Awliya, it is also contended that they are medium or means ("Waseelah") of taking the mureeds, or conveying their duas, to Allah … and it is for this reason that they (the mureeds) follow the Peers/Walees. In support of this belief, they furnish the following aayat:

"O you who believe! Remain conscious of Allah and seek to come close to Him (WAB-TAGHOO ILIHIL WASEELATA), and strive hard in His Cause, so that you may be successful." (5:35)

The word "Waseelah" in this verse is taken as "proof" that peer-worship is permissible. And from here an edifice of personality-worship is erected, for the demolition of which (edifice) the Holy Quran was revealed, and which was the purpose of the Holy Prophet’s mission:

"…and removes from them the burdens and shackles that were on them." (7:157)

These burdens and shackles were of personality-worship, for the removal of which the Nabi (S) was sent.

In the Arabic tongue, the word "Waseelah" does not only mean medium, instrumentality, means (zaree-ah), but also status, nearness, dignity, station, rank, honor. The aayat (5:35) quoted above means that we must always be conscious of the Laws of Allah, and try to achieve high status, rank, station, dignity, in the eyes of Allah. The way to do this is to work hard and expend in His Path. In doing so, we should attain the nearness to Him for which we are striving.

The signification that through TAQWA (God-consciousness), nearness to Allah is achieved, is to be found in many verses of the Quran, one of which is:

"Verily, the noblest among you in the sight of Allah, is the one who is most deeply conscious of Him." (49:13)

If the word "Waseelah" is taken to mean "zaree-ah" (instrumentality, means, medium), then, too, the purport becomes clear… that we must through the "zaree-ah" of God-consciousness, seek station, dignity, and nearness to Allah.

Direct Connection between Man and God

The Holy Quran brings about a DIRECT connection between man and his Creator. It is the Quran alone by means of which a relation between Creator and created is established. And this is achieved by ACTING ON and PUTTING INTO PRACTICE THE PRECEPTS OF THE QURAN, which makes a man the true servant of Allah. The concept of another human being can become a "zaree-ah" (Waseelah) between man and GOD is therefore UN-QURANIC! That is why the Quran states clearly:

"And if My servants ask thee (O Prophet) about Me – behold, I am near; I respond to the call of him who calls, whenever he calls unto Me: let them, then, respond to Me, and believe in Me, so that they might follow the right way," (2:186)

How clear everything has been made! Whoever has faith in the truth of the laws of Allah, and obeys these laws, he attains that objective for which people search of r a "Murshid"! The focal point of Quranic teaching is that it does not allow any power to come between man and God: be it the power of a sovereign in politics, the power of sovereign in politics, the power of a capitalist in matters of sustenance (Rizq), or the power of religious leadership in matters of Mazhab. (In Islam, there is, in any case, NO dichotomy of religion and politics). And, of course, the Quran proscribes (prohibits) the intermediacy of the so-called peers/walees. Every Muslim can establish a DIRECT CONTACT with Almighty by carrying out His Commandments in the Holy Quran.

Allah Ta Aala refers to His Book as the "Kalaamullah". Hence, when someone recites the Quran, then it is obvious that Allah is having Kalaam with him, or speaking to him. After the termination of prophethoot, there remained NO OTHER MEANS OF SPEAKING TO THE ALMIGHTY EXCEPT THROUGH THE HOLY QURAN!!

Occasioned by the erroneous acceptation of "Awliya-Allah, the way in which the factor of Allah’s "special servants" (as being intermediaries between man and God) is regarded as indispensable, can be assessed by the following story that is imprinted indelibly on the minds of those who go to the Khaanqaahs (monasteries) to server as novitiates.

"Yaa Fareed, Yaa fareed"

(This story, incidentally, is attributed to many other Awliya as well!!)

The story is told of Hazrat Baba Fareed who was living on this side of the sea. Each morning he used to leave home (to go to his Khaanqaah) and behind him his mureed followed. On arriving at the shore, he used to cross the sea without the aid of a ship or bright. He used to come home in the evening in the same manner, i.e., walking on water. He had given strict instructions to his mureed that while walking on water, he must keep repeating "Yaa Fareed". Many years passed in this wise. One day, however, while walking on water, the mureed heard that Baba Fareed was muttering some words. When he strained his ears to catch the words, he heard that the Baba Saheb was uttering: "Yaa Allah, Yaa Allah."

The mureed thought that why should he not also say "Yaa Allah" instead of "Yaa Fareed". But the moment he uttered "Yaa Allah", he fell into the water with a heavy splash, and began to drown.

Baba Saheb saved him. Upon reaching the shore, he asked his mureed as to what happened. Shivering, and in fear, he revealed the truth, whereupon the Baba Saheb said: "Did you ever see Allah? Have you any contact or communication with Him?" The Mureed answered in the negative. Khwaja Fareed then asked: "How can you call for your assistance a Being Whom you do not know, and with Whom you have no connection? Fareed calls on Allah because Fareed ahs a direct link with Him. You must call upon Fareed because you have dealings with Fareed. On the day that you establish a direct communication with Allah, you too may call upon Him."

This, and other such stories are drummed into the head of the mureed – that the "Awliya" are indispensable links between man and God, and without their intermediation we simply cannot establish contact with Him.

This relation between the peer and his mureed does not exist only until the end of the murshid’s life, but continues uninterruptedly beyond his (the murshid’s) death!

The reason for this is the belief that the Awliya are present and seeing (Haazir-o-Naazir) even after death, just as they could hear and see everything when alive, granting the wishes of the suppliant, and interceding on their behalf to the Almighty. Contrary to this belief, the Holy Quran states about those who are dead:

"And who is in greater error than he who invokes besides Allah such as will not respond to him till the Day of Resurrection, and are not even conscious of being invoked. And when men are gathered together, they (the Awliya) will be enemies unto those (the mureeds or peer-worshipers), and will UTTERLY REJECT their worship." (46:5-6)

This verse VERY CLEARLY, indicates that neither the idols of the non-believers (Kuffaar) nor any other false deities of theirs are spoken of here. The discussion in this aayat is about those pious servants of Allah who, after their death, are invoked to grant their (the mureeds’) wishes. The very fact that they are going to reject the mureed’s claims, testifies to their innocence and to their being the sincere and blameless servants of Allah. Regarding them the Quran says that they just CANNOT hear those who cal lupon them. The FACT, from the Quranic viewpoint, is that all connections between those who are dead, and this world, are severed, cut off! After death, they are transferred to the other side. This is why the Quran says:

"If you invoke them, they do not hear your call; and even if they could hear, they would not (be able to) respond to you. And on the Day of Qiyaamah they will UTTERLY DISDOWN YOUR HAVING ASSOCIATED THEM WITH ALLAH. And none can make you understand (the truth) like the One Who is All-Knowing." (35:14)

The second sentence of the above aayat discusses the position of those who are the RIGHTEOUS servants of Allah who will dissociate themselves from the SHIRK of their (unwanted) mureeds. It is indeed FOOD for THOUGHT that those whom the mureeds invoke, reject them, calling their invocation SHIRK; yet the mureeds continue to be their faithful devotees!

Knowledge of the Unknown (ILM-e-GHAIB)

It is also believed (by peer-worshippers) that the Awliya have knowledge of the Unseen. Allah, however, debunks this belief in the following words:

"Say (O Prophet): None in the heavens or on earth knows the unseen except Allah. And neither can they (who are dead) know when they will be raised." (27:65)

Let alone others, even the Holy Prophet (S) hand no KNOWLEDGE WHATSOEVER of the Unseen. Allah tells him:

"Say (O Prophet): ‘I do not say unto you that I have with me the treasures of Allah no do I know the Unseen… I follow only that which is revealed to me’." (6:50)

When Allah wished to acquaint the Nabi (S) and other prophets with Ilm-e-Ghaib, he did so through Wahy (revelation). After relating the story of Bibi Maryam ®, Allah says in the Quran:

"This account of things unseen We reveal unto thee". (3:43)

Since Wahy (revelation) terminated with the Holy Prophet (S), the possibility of anyone else being a recipient of the knowledge of the hidden, unknown, unseen things also ended!

ANYBODY, THERFORE, WHO CLAIMS TO POSSES ILM-E-GHAIB, IS ACTUALLY CLAIMING TO BE A PROPHET!!
